Self-archiving (also called green open access) is the process of depositing a copy of your work in a repository to allow others to access it in an open access format without the payment of an article processing charge. The version deposited can also vary from the original submitted manuscript (pre-print), to the accepted manuscript post-peer review, to the final typeset article (version of record). Every publisher and journal has a different policies governing the self-archiving practices its authors can engage in, including which version can be deposited, what license needs to be applied, and how long the author must wait to release their work (called an embargo period).
Use JISC Open Policy Finder to find your journal's policies on self-archiving.
The College of Saint Benedict and Saint Johns University Libraries uses Digital Commons for our Institutional Repository.
CSB and SJU Digital Commons is a dynamic institutional repository based on the principle of Open Access. It enables us to collect, share, and preserve the scholarly output of the CSB/SJU community. It is intended to provide access to this work as broadly as possible, and for as long as possible.
