Items in Omeka

Item types of individual files include: images, text, or multi-media (no larger than 128mb)

Dublin Core Metadata is a standardized metadata set (which contains information for the item) designed for the web

Metadata includes terms such as, “Title,” “Description,” “Creator,” “Date”

Items can be “tagged” with a topic or other keyword

Access the CSB+SJU Omeka Site

Adding Items

Select "Add a new item"

Add Item

Complete the following fields in the Dublin Core tab:

  • Title:
  • Subject: What genre?
  • Description: What is the image about?
  • Creator: Who is the author/photographer?
  • Source: Where did you find the image? Who took the original photo?
  • Publisher: What website did you find the image on? Is it a company or magazine that supplied the image? 
  • Date: What is the date of the image?
  • Rights: Either the Creative Commons License “CC BY-NC”, etc
    • OR “These images are for educational use only” followed by the MLA citation.
      • “Citation: Last name, First name. Title. Date, Location of image/website, URL.”  
  • Leave the rest of the fields blank – they will not show on the public view of the item.
Select the Item Type Metadata tab: 

In the dropdown box, select the type of the uploaded file: still image, text, sound, or moving image

Select the "Files" tab

Add your file to the Omeka site: (maximum file size is 128MB)

"Choose File" to attach your image

Select the "Tags" tab

TAGS: Use the genre of your group as a tag, ie grunge or hippie

Select the "Maps" tab

Add the address or city for the location you are discussing for your trend.

Find the "Add Item" box

Choose the collection THEA279A_Fall2025

Check "Public" (if you see it)

Once you choose the collection, click "Add Item"

Check your item

Select "Items" in the sidebar to look at your item and check the metadata
