Impact of an Undercount
-
Minnesota is eligible to receive about $15 billion in funding for the community. This goes toward programs like Medicaid, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, the Federal Pell Grant Program, WIC, roads and infrastructure building, Section 8 Housing choice vouchers, and many more.
-
Minnesota almost lost a congressional district in 2010 and is still at risk for losing a seat this Census. If our population is undercounted, our district and local government will look different.
-
Census data is used to determine where and what resources are allocated to certain communities. Funds cannot be given if the government doesn’t know you’re here.
-
The private sector also uses Census data to determine what businesses are needed and will be used in certain communities. This stimulates job opportunities and growth.
