Call Numbers

Each book is given a Library of Congress call number.

Call numbers are arranged alphabetically, and then by whole number (everything before the first period in the call number).

A call number is like a book's address, and books on related topics are located next to each other on our shelves. Click here to find out what call numbers are assigned for particular subjects:

How long can I check out a book?

Students are allowed to check out a book for the entire semester. If the book is recalled, you will need to return it. You have a 9 day grace period; if it is not returned by the 10th day you will be charged $10 for each overdue book.

Students are allowed to check out DVDs for 3 day. If you do not return it within 24 hours it is a $1.00 per day/per DVD.

You can renew your items online.

You can return material at either library's circulation desk.

To check out materials you must have a valid CSB and SJU barcoded ID.

Need help finding your book?

Now that you've found a book for your research, how do you find it on the shelf? You can always ask for help at the circulation desk or ask a librarian. Here is a helpful video by CSB and SJU Libraries that demonstrates how to find books on the shelves:
